Auto Glass Technology is

Rapidly Changing

Advanced Driver(s) Assistance Systems (ADAS) in vehicles is becoming increasingly popular. These systems rely upon cameras, lasers, and radar – often with the camera mounting to the windshield. Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be calibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to OEM specifications.

What is ADAS?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System. It is a rapidly growing new technology that includes systems to help the driver in the driving process. When designed with a safe human-machine interface they should increase car safety & more generally, road safety

Why do we need to be able to calibrate your vehicle?

A vehicle’s computer relies on the cameras, radars, and/or lasers used by the ADAS to ensure they are in the correct alignment to function properly, however, they do not automatically adjust themselves. Calibration guides the vehicle’s computer and ensures these systems are working properly.

When a windshield is replaced, the camera should be removed from the bracket & unplugged from the car. After the replacement is completed, the camera needs to be reattached & recalibrated.

What will happen if a vehicle is not calibrated?

If a car’s ADAS is not properly calibrated, the system may not function safely. If the cameras, radars, and/or lasers on the vehicle are off by even a few millimeters they may not give accurate readings and the system may not function properly, leaving the installer with potential liability.

Do any of these symbols look familiar? You may see them in your vehicle if you have any advanced safety features.

How long does calibration take?

Depending on the type of calibration & the specific vehicle, it can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to two hours. Some of the calibrations we are able to perform with our mobile service, others, we may ask that you drop your vehicle off with us to insure everything is working properly after installation of the new windshield.

Where do the recalibrations take place?

We can do a dynamic right at your location with our mobile service. We do have to drive the vehicle for 10-15 minutes to make sure the safety features are working properly after the installation of a new glass. We do need clear skies and clear roads to ensure the calibration is successful.

If your vehicle requires a static or duo calibration, we will set up an appointment for you to come to our shop in Kentwood.
